Steve Zivny has been with the City of Omaha for over 15 years. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Steve currently manages the City’s two Lead Programs since 2012 with a staff of 12. Prior to Steve’s time at the City, he worked with a local environmental firm gaining asbestos and lead sampling and removal experience.
The City’s two program’s include:
The HUD Lead Hazard Control Program funded through the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes. The program is currently on the 7th Lead Hazard Control grant which ends December 15, 2026. The program started in 1999.
The EPA Omaha Lead Site Superfund Program funded through EPA. The City took over all soil remediation activities from EPA in 2016. Currently sampling and remediating approximately 100 yards per year and conducting education and outreach activities in the largest residential Superfund site in the U.S. The current Cooperative Agreement’s term is January 1, 2023 thru December 31, 2029.
