Antavia Paredes-Beaulieu serves as the Green Tech Instructor and Program Lead at Migizi. Antavia descends from the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and grew up in South Minneapolis. She earned her associates degree at Minneapolis College as a Power of You scholar and continued her studies in chemistry at Metro State University as an Increasing Diversity in Environmental Careers Fellow, as well as abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico as a Gilman International Scholar. Antavia has been a PhD student of chemistry at the University of Minnesota where she helped teach undergraduate analytical chemistry labs and spent time researching and synthesizing porous nanoparticles for PFAS phytoremediation as a 3M Science and Technology Fellow.
With a passion for energy and conservation within the context of culture and economics, Antavia studied renewable energy systems for climate change adaptation at Kathmandu University and has experience installing rooftop PV modules. She brings this experience with her to Migizi, teaching Native youth to engage with energy conservation in their everyday lives while training them for careers in home energy auditing, solar panel installation, soldering and circuitry. At Migizi, all curriculum and training is based in traditional ways of knowing and Indigenous culture as well as academic excellence.
