Youth in Home Performance: What It Takes to Attract and Retain Young People

By the year 2045 it’s predicted that Black, Indigenous, and people of color will make up close to half of the workforce in the U.S. Youth entering the workforce overwhelmingly embrace equity & diversity and are driven much more by a desire to impact climate change than a pension. What does this mean for you as a home performance contractor or hiring manager? What do effective program models engaging youth in these careers look like?
Come learn from organizations that are leading the efforts to engage young people in energy efficiency. From building awareness about energy efficiency careers in K-12 to providing paid, hands-on training opportunities, each of these organizations has a unique approach to engagement. Presenters from the City of Minneapolis, Urban Efficiency Group, and MIGIZI will provide effective strategies to engage young people both in and outside of K-12 and share their learning from program models that primarily focus on engaging youth and young people.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this session, attendees will:
  • Name program models that are effectively engaging youth in energy efficiency and career exploration in home performance
  • Identify outreach strategies to effectively engage with young people, specifically youth of color, in energy efficiency career exploration
  • Leave equipped with best practices and program models to further your own workforce engagement and recruitment efforts
