We all have gotten used to virtual meetings post-Covid but what is a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)? There is a lot of talk these days about the role that VPPs can play in maintaining and enhancing grid reliability while at the same time holding down costs. Different people define a virtual powerplant differently but they are generally along the lines of:

An aggregation of numerous different demand-side energy using devices or equipment that can be controlled remotely to provide services to the grid in order to maintain reliability and/or control costs.

  • Understand what VPPs are and be familiar with examples
  • Explore how VPPs are changing the policy world that provides various incentives for home and commercial energy upgrades
  • Begin to envision what this will mean for contractors and their business in the future
