Panel upgrades to accommodate 240 Volt HPWH models are expensive and can lead to install delays. 120 Volt models have entered the market, but can they meet the hot water needs of consumers? To help answer that question New Buildings Institute installed 120 Volt HPHs for 32 customers in most climates zones across California. The units were monitored for water and ambient temperature, flow rate, power consumption, and the customers and the contractors were surveyed on their usage and satisfaction with the water heaters. Once the fundamental features and the water heater capability to provide hot water were successfully validated three of the 32 sites were selected to test the water heat demand response readiness and load shifting features. This session will cover findings and next steps. In addition, the specifications of each currently available 120 Volt HPWHs will be covered with the intent of helping you and your and others choose the best 120 Volt model for their given situation.
