Accelerating the adoption of multifamily clean heating and cooling technologies to ensure we meet our carbon reduction goals will require bold and innovative solutions. Through our implementation work we have become intimately familiar with the market-based and technical challenges clean heating and cooling technologies face and have compiled a multitude of lessons learned and best practices that can assist the clean energy industry nationally. In this session we will discuss a variety of heat pump solutions and retrofit options while highlighting system specific considerations, such as allowing adequate space for airflow, accounting for increased noise, minimizing external piping, properly siting indoor/outdoor units, properly piping storage tanks, routing refrigerant piping, preventing refrigerant leaks, and ensuring sufficient electrical capacity/potential transformer upgrades. The goal of this session is to provide attendees with guidance to properly design, install, operate, and maintain these systems so that the carbon reduction benefits are fully realized.
Learning Objectives:
By attending this session, attendees will:
Understand the significant decarbonization opportunity multifamily housing presents
Be exposed to the variety of heat pump retrofit options for multifamily building space conditioning and domestic water heating
Identify the system specific considerations for proper design, installation, and operation
