Tackling the Toughest Technical Challenges to Residential Retrofits: A Multidisciplinary Team Approach

Speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) will share their “boots-on-the-ground” strategy to help communities and contractors tackle the toughest challenges to residential retrofits through the deployment of 9 multidisciplinary expert teams. Funded by DOE’s Building America program, the newly launched Building America Retrofit Solutions Teams will be positioned across the country to solve climate-specific technical challenges to residential energy and electrification retrofits through a portfolio of field validation and demonstration projects, bolstering efforts to decarbonize the existing housing stock. During this session, speakers will provide an overview of the Teams, the challenges they are solving, and how you can take advantage of the best-practice guidance developed by these teams. Participants will also be exposed to the tools and resources available through the Building America Solution Center. Attendees will learn why this multidisciplinary and community-informed approach was selected to ensure an equitable and repeatable uptake of residential retrofits. The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A with the speakers to discuss some of the major technical roadblocks and opportunities to deploy community-wide residential retrofits.
