Person-centered, Trauma-informed Home Repair Programming and Approaches

Person-centered, trauma-informed (PCTI) approaches to home repair interventions may mitigate unintended harm and ensure that individuals who have experienced disproportionate marginalization and trauma are not re-triggered by home repair interventions. Leveraging learnings from Habitat for Humanity International’s two-year pilot program to design and implement PCTI approaches to home repair in three cities across the country, this session will share some learnings, best practices and outcomes from integrating a PCTI approach. It will describe the importance and relevance of ensuring home-based services are person-centered and trauma-informed for household members and service providers. Tools to measure a PCTI approach at the household and service provider level and preliminary data on the impact of integrating PCTI approaches will be shared. This session will include a discussion on ensuring program policies reflect are person-centered, trauma-informed and explore the relationship between diversity, equity and inclusion work and PCTI frameworks.
